Artistic Director & Director
Emma trained at the National Theatre Studio, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Exeter University. She met Zoe whilst at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and together they have run Pins & Needles since 2009.
Emma has directed, or co-directed, all but one of Pins & Needles’ shows and is used to overseeing the delivery of multiple productions. In addition to Directing, through Pins and Needles Emma has developed skills in adapting and has co-written five shows.
Emma has a longstanding relationship with Les Enfants Terribles theatre company as Associate Director and has directed numerous shows for them including ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND; DINNER AT THE TWITS; ERNEST AND THE PALE MOON; and THE MARVELLOUS IMAGINARY MENAGERIE.
She is also an Associate Artist of the egg and has directed multiple shows for their participation strands including THE SHAPE OF THINGS; THE GRAPES OF WRATH and TREASURE ISLAND.
Emma is passionate about making innovative theatre for all ages, and responds to inventive, bold work, often with an off-kilter sensibility. She has a background in film meaning she instinctively gravitates towards telling stories where the visual and sound worlds are as important as text.
Emma is an experienced mentor and teacher, and a strong advocate for the arts. She believes in attracting new audiences to theatre and breaking down barriers that might make people feel excluded.
Emma is proud of the fact that Pins & Needles is based in Bristol and is passionate about championing regional talent.
